SafeNet UPS Minidriver
for Win2k/WinXp (RS232)

This driver integrates seamlessly with the built-in UPS management service in Win2k/WinXp, protecting your system at all times. It has been tested with a Fenton PowerPal P-series UPS on Windows XP, and can be used with any SafeNet-compatible UPS fitted with a serial port. Detailed installation instructions are included below.

  • If the 'SafeNet NT v1.0' applet (or other UPS driver) is installed, uninstall it first.
  • Connect your UPS to your PC using the supplied serial cable if you have not done so yet.
  • Installation
  • Right-click on SafeNetUPS.inf, select [Install], and wait a few seconds for the installation to finish.
  • Setup
  • Launch ControlPanel -> Power Options
  • Click on UPS tab
  • Click [Select] button
  • For 'Manufacturer', select matching entry
  • If your UPS is not listed, select '3am Systems'
  • For 'Model', select matching entry
  • If your UPS is not listed, select 'Generic SafeNet UPS'
  • For 'Port', select appropriate Serial Port
  • Click on [Finish]
  • Optionally, click [Configure], modify settings, and click [OK]
  • On the UPS tab, click [Apply]
  • Test
  • To ensure that your system is protected, simulate a power failure and verify that your system behaves correctly. Automatic hibernate/shutdown should occur after the specified time interval (or before, if the batteries run low). If enabled, the UPS itself will power down a few minutes after initiation of the shutdown sequence.

  • Click on UPS tab
  • Click [Select] button
  • For 'Manufacturer', select '[None]'
  • Click on [Finish]
  • On the UPS tab, click [Apply]
  • Delete the file SafeNetUPS.dll from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
