3am founder Brian Cauchi was a recipient of the "Ericsson awards of excellence in telecommunications" in recognition of his undergraduate thesis on wireline diagnostic tools. All six awardees were formerly students at the Communications and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Malta, which today forms part of the Faculty of ICT. In October'08, Rembrandt Data Technologies LP sued several companies for allegedly infringing patents related to dial-up modem technology. Expert witness for DIRECTV Inc, one of the targeted companies, used 3am LineScope to assert non-infringement defences. The EMerge Alliance, an open industry association promoting the rapid adoption of safe, low-voltage direct-current (DC) power distribution and use in commercial building interiors, announced that several organizations have joined the coalition, bringing membership to a total of 40 organizations.
